ATS Scoring Methodology

Utilnivo never invents a single fake “ATS %.” We publish two scores: Resume Quality Score (document health) and Job Match Score (requirement coverage for a selected job). Match scoring is deterministic and bounded to 0–100.

Two scores, not one ATS percentage

Resume Quality Score reflects content quality, ATS readability, completeness, and writing clarity on the document itself. It does not require a job description.

Job Match Score reflects how well the current resume version covers the selected job’s requirements, with separate evidence confidence. Optimize and Match surfaces keep these scores visually separate.

Job Match Score weights

Required requirement coverage contributes about 78% of the current Job Match Score. Preferred coverage contributes about 14%. Demonstrated evidence quality contributes about 8%.

Per-requirement credit is stronger for exact demonstrated evidence than for weak or related signals. Missing or unconfirmed requirements receive no credit. Preferred items are weighted lower than required technical items.

Exact terminology in an experience bullet is stronger than the same term only in a skills list. Related technologies never become exact matches—for example, React does not satisfy Angular, and Docker does not satisfy Kubernetes.

Score labels

Labels are Strong (85+), Good (70–84), Moderate (50–69), and Limited (below 50). The UI can also show required/preferred coverage so the number is explainable.

Limitations

  • Scores are not a guarantee of any employer ATS, recruiter workflow, or hiring outcome.
  • Cloud or semantic match modes may add explanations, but local deterministic scoring remains the explainable baseline.
  • Keyword classes (matched / missing-supported / missing-unsupported) come from match evidence—not from substring bars alone.
