Use this 401k paycheck comparison calculator to see how contributions change take-home pay. Enter gross pay, contribution percent, employer match, and tax rates to compare your paycheck with and without 401(k) deferrals side by side.
1. Enter gross pay and select pay frequency. 2. Choose Traditional or Roth. 3. Set your contribution percent and employer match (with optional match cap). 4. Enter federal, state, and FICA tax rates. 5. Click Calculate to compare take-home pay and net paycheck impact. Contributions can be entered as a percent of gross or dollars per period.
Example: $3,000 biweekly gross, Traditional 10% contribution, 50% match, 22% federal + 5% state + 7.65% FICA → $300 contribution, $150 employer match, about $81 income-tax savings, and take-home down by about $219 (not $300). Roth would show $0 tax savings and a full $300 take-home drop.
Enter gross pay per period, pay frequency, Traditional or Roth 401(k), contribution and employer match rates, and estimated tax rates. FICA always applies to full gross wages. Traditional contributions reduce federal/state taxable wages; Roth contributions do not. The calculator compares take-home pay with and without the contribution, showing tax savings and the effective cost of contributing.
