Paste original and updated text in the shared Compare workspace. Text mode opens with plain text selected so you can review a side-by-side or unified diff. Comparison runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

Text Compare is a text difference checker. Paste two versions and see what was added, removed, or changed.

The page starts in plain-text mode. You can still switch tabs to files or URLs if you need those inputs; the shared workspace is the same one used on the Compare hub.

Side-by-side view keeps original and changed lines aligned. Unified view stacks insertions and deletions in one pane.

Text Compare does not try to parse JSON, XML, or CSV. Use the dedicated pages when you want JSON path hints, XML mode, or row/cell matching.

Your text stays in the browser. Utilnivo does not store pasted drafts.

How to use this tool

1. Text Compare opens with document type set to plain text. 2. Paste the original text on the left and the updated text on the right. 3. Click Compare. 4. Review added, removed, and changed lines. 5. Use unified view for a single stacked diff. Comparison runs in your browser.

Worked example

Example: paste four config lines that include timeout = 5000 and retries = 2, then change those values on the right. Compare reports two differences and lets you jump from one changed line to the next.

When to use this

  • Checking edits in notes, logs, or config files.
  • Comparing two email or document drafts.
  • Reviewing a paste from a ticket without opening a desktop diff tool.

Common examples

  • Two versions of a changelog paragraph.
  • Server log excerpts before and after a retry change.
  • A policy draft with one clause rewritten.

Common mistakes

  • Pasting JSON or CSV here when you wanted JSON Compare or CSV Compare. Those pages add type-specific hints and table matching.
  • Expecting word-level highlighting inside a long unchanged line. The workspace reports line-level hunks.
  • Clearing one side and comparing against empty text when you meant to use Samples.

How it works

Paste two versions of plain text and run a line-level diff in your browser. Text mode opens with document type set to plain text so you can review added, removed, and changed lines in side-by-side or unified view.

Limitations

Results are based on the inputs you provide and may not cover every edge case. This tool is for general use and is not professional advice.
