Select a supported STAAR Grades 3–8 grade and subject, then enter your raw points earned. The calculator maps the raw score to an estimated scale-score range and performance level (Did Not Meet, Approaches, Meets, or Masters) using Utilnivo reference bands. Results are planning estimates—not official TEA conversions—and clearly labeled as estimated.

Estimated band lookup: locate the raw-score band for the selected grade and subject, report that band’s scale-score minimum and maximum, assign the band’s performance level, and compute approximate raw points needed for the next level. Official conversion tables can be added later without changing the UI contract.
FAQ
A raw score is the number of points earned on the assessment or practice test before conversion to a scale score.
A scale score converts raw points onto a common scale so results can be compared across test forms. Official conversions vary by grade, subject, year, and administration.
Schools often treat Approaches Grade Level as a basic passing benchmark and Meets Grade Level as a stronger readiness goal. This tool labels both clearly and uses estimated bands—confirm with the official score report.
They are STAAR performance levels. Approaches indicates partial grade-level understanding, Meets indicates strong grade-level understanding, and Masters indicates advanced understanding. Did Not Meet is below Approaches.
Yes. The reverse calculator estimates the minimum raw points needed for Approaches, Meets, or Masters on the selected assessment, plus how many points can be missed at that estimated threshold.
No. Cut scores and conversions can change by year, form, and administration. This calculator currently uses estimated reference bands, not year-specific official tables.
No. Utilnivo is an independent educational tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Texas Education Agency.
Official TEA conversion tables, test form difficulty, and year-specific cut scores can differ from these estimated reference bands. Always use the official student score report for final results.
