Weighted Grade Calculator

  • Browser-based
  • No signup

Enter assignment or category scores with weights to compute your overall percentage, letter grade, and each item’s contribution. Weights are proportional and do not need to total exactly 100. Scores can include limited extra credit up to 110%.

100% Client-Side

Your data never leaves your computer.

How to use this tool

1. Add each assignment or category with its weight (percent of grade). 2. Enter scores earned and maximum points for each item. 3. Click Calculate weighted grade. 4. Review the current course percentage in the results panel. 5. Confirm weighting rules with your syllabus—schools differ.

Worked example

Example: homework 20% at 90/100 and exams 80% at 75/100 yields a weighted course grade near 78%.

How it works

Enter each assignment or category with a score and weight. The calculator computes a weighted average, shows each item’s contribution, and maps the overall score to a letter grade. Weights are proportional, so they do not need to total exactly 100.

Limitations

Results are based on the inputs you provide and may not cover every edge case. This tool is for general use and is not professional advice.

Frequently asked questions

How is the overall grade calculated?

Each item’s score is multiplied by its weight, then divided by the total of all weights. That produces a weighted average percentage.

Do weights need to add up to 100?

No. Weights are treated proportionally. If they do not total 100, they are scaled so each item keeps its relative share.

What letter grade scale is used?

A common U.S. scale is used, from A+ (97%+) down to F (below 60%), including plus and minus grades.
