EV Charging Cost Calculator

  • Browser-based
  • No signup

Enter trip distance, EV efficiency in miles per kWh, electricity rate, and charging efficiency to estimate energy from the grid, total charging cost, cost per mile, and cost per 100 miles.

100% Client-Side

Your data never leaves your computer.

How to use this tool

1. Enter battery capacity or kWh needed for the trip. 2. Enter your electricity rate per kWh (home or public charger). 3. Click Calculate. 4. Review estimated charging cost. 5. Compare home vs public rates if the form allows multiple scenarios.

Worked example

Example: 60 kWh charged at $0.14/kWh costs about $8.40—actual cost varies with charger efficiency and idle fees.

How it works

Enter trip distance in miles, your EV’s efficiency in miles per kWh, the electricity rate per kWh, and charging efficiency. The calculator estimates battery energy needed, energy drawn from the grid after charging losses, total cost, cost per mile, and cost per 100 miles.

Limitations

Results are based on the inputs you provide and may not cover every edge case. This tool is for general use and is not professional advice.

Frequently asked questions

How is charging cost calculated?

Battery energy is distance divided by mi/kWh. Grid energy is battery energy divided by charging efficiency, then multiplied by your electricity rate.

What is charging efficiency?

Not all electricity from the wall ends up in the battery. Home Level 2 charging is often around 90%. Use 100% if you want to ignore losses.

Does this include idle fees or membership costs?

No. Results estimate energy cost only based on distance, efficiency, rate, and charging losses.
